Most Google Home owners, most of the time, use Google Home as a standalone smart speaker. In the menu of the device, as shown below, tap Settings to access Google Home device settings. As shown above, in the Devices page, you can find all Google Home devices and Chromecast devices that are connected to the same network as your mobile device. The audio was transmitted to Google Home using the Bluetooth connection between your mobile device and Google Home. Similarly, to disconnect a paired phone or tablet, you need to say, "Hey Google, disconnect" or "Hey Google, disconnect Bluetooth." To add a Bluetooth speaker, first make sure the speaker is in pairing mode. If you’re not sure how to do that, consult the website of your speaker’s manufacturer—most of the time, you’ll just long-press the Bluetooth button, though. Most Bluetooth speakers make them visible all the time. So, Google Home can find most Bluetooth speakers even you do not manually enable the pairing mode. Tap the speaker or display whose connections you want to manage from the list of smart home devices. The best way to manage Bluetooth devices paired with your Assistant speaker or display is through the Google Home app.

You can pair a Google Nest or Home device to multiple Bluetooth enabled speakers or headphones, but it will only connect to the most recently connected device. Please also note, Google Home will always use its speaker to process voice commands and audio feedback when you connect Google Home to a Bluetooth speaker. Only music and media will be played on the Bluetooth speaker.

Let’s say you have a single Home in the kitchen, but you want to control music in the living room. You can also control the volume of the Bluetooth speaker by using the Home’s volume control—just like if the speaker were paired with a phone. From that point forward, your Home should stay connected to the Bluetooth speaker and use it as the default audio device. This opens the default speaker menu.

As shown above, tap the menu key on the top right corner of the living room speaker card. In this guide, we want to use the living room speaker as an example to demonstrate how to connect Google Home to a Bluetooth speaker. But if you have a decent Bluetooth speaker, you may want to output sound to the Bluetooth speaker, instead of Google Home. In this case, Google Home speaker will be silenced except for Google Assistant feedback. Of course, you still use Google Assistant on Google Home, not on the Bluetooth speaker.
If you want to see the current status of your Google Home device, you can do so by opening the “Home” tab. You can now start adding your friends to this group. Tap Done as shown below to start to use this Bluetooth speaker for the Google Home. Please note, each device has own card and own menu key.
